Special thanks to Campus Enhancement chairs Kim Wilson, Maureen Gold, and Lisa Petillon for planning, coordinating and working all day at this special event.

PTA News  -  At our PTA meeting on April 22, 2008 membership generously approved a number of capital improvements for the Pennekamp campus. Amplification systems will be installed in all classrooms which do not currently have the systems in place. A cafeteria point of sale system will make lunch cards obsolete and save tremendous amount of office processing time. Similarly, installation of info*snap technology will allow the office to proceed with online registration, saving enormous number of office hours as well as volunteer time as the system can be downloaded to create our directory. Finally, PTA members approved a $25,000 donation to MBEF which will allow MBEF to sustain grants for many important programs at Pennekamp. Thanks to all for your generous support.

Attention Parents: Want to get an Insider's View of MBMS?   -  Volunteer for Scholar Quiz at the Middle School!  This high-speed academic competition (think Jeopardy at 100 mph) galvanizes the entire campus for ten days each spring.  It's fun, it's academic it's inspiring!  And it's labor intensive!  The Scholar Quiz committee needs 150 volunteers to be able to pull this off - which is where you come in. Sign up to be a flag judge, timer, or scorer and you'll be able to share the fun of Scholar Quiz while getting a feel for the Middle School.  If you're available May 14 or 15, or May 19-21 during the lunch hour and would like to help, please email Darren Sepanek at darren@mktgdesigns.com.  Questions?  Call Jamie Buckstaff at 310-372-0816.

Go Green Recognition -    Our "Go Green" efforts continue to make a difference at Pennekamp and in our community.  Special thanks to Go Green chair Mariel Waller for her leadership in spearheading this new PTA committee.  She and her dedicated team have brought us information, materials, and resources which have allowed us to recycle, reuse, and renew at Pennekamp.  Our children (parents too!) are learning valuable lessons in how to take better care of our earth and its resources.  We appreciate everyone's help in making Pennekamp environmentally friendly, by walking to school on Wednesdays, packing a trash free lunch on Tuesday, and using your re-useable shopping bags.  It's the little things we do, that together can make a big difference.  Thanks to Mariel and Go Green we all "Think Globally, Act Locally".

April Boxtop Winners   -  Ms. Moriyama's 2nd graders, Mr. Ahrens' 5th graders, and Mrs. Curry's 5th graders all won ice cream parties for their effort in collecting Box Tops.  The last contest of the year is this month.  So turn in all your Box Tops by the end of May.  If you have any questions, call Patricia Koester at 310-318-1259.
