Campus
Enhancements:
This committee maintains the lovely potted gardens
outside classrooms, organizes campus “pride days” for sprucing up our
grounds, and helps find ways to improve the overall appearance of the
campus.

Clothing and Toy
Drive:
Each fall, Pennekamp families get into the spirit of giving. We
collect gently used clothing, toys and books and provide them to an
inner city school.

Directory/Parent
Handbook:
This will become one of the most important books in
your house! The PK Directory provides the names and phone numbers
for all your child’s classmates, teacher’s extensions at school, the
yearlong school calendar, and critical information about PTA and
Pennekamp. A copy of the Directory is provided free to each PTA
member. The Directory accepts local advertisements. Extra copies of
the directory are available for purchase.

Dragon eNews:
The Pennekamp
PTA sends out a weekly e-mail newsletter on Monday evenings to
parents, teachers and administrators containing information about
school events, a calendar of upcoming events, a link to Principal
Dale Keldrauk's weekly green sheet, the school lunch menu, articles
of interest and much more. pkpta.org will post any of the
forms and flyers which go out in the Tuesday envelope so you can

Historian:
The Pennekamp
Historian compiles photographs and other memorabilia from the school
year. The Historian works with yearbook and the website to
make these available to students and families.

Hospitality:
The PTA serves
snacks at many PTA events, including general PTA meetings.
Hospitality chairs organize and set up these snacks (usually juice,
cookies, and coffee), which are paid for by PTA.

Kindergarten/New
Parent Social:
Just prior to the opening of school each September,
Pennekamp hosts a “welcome” social for in-coming Kindergarten/PEP
families as well as anyone new to our school.

Library Volunteer
Coordinator:
Library volunteers help students locate and check out
books, re-shelve books, and generally support the work of our Library
Media Specialist.

PTA Reflections:
Reflections is a
national PTA program that asks students to create artwork (musical
composition, photography, literature, visual arts) based on a theme.
Judges at PK review the work by category and grade. Winners are
forwarded to the Manhattan Beach Council, State, and even the National
PTA. The 2007-2008 theme is “I Can Make a Difference by…” and entries will be due
in late November.

PTA
Website: The
Pennekamp PTA has an award-winning website, www.pkpta.org, that is
updated several times a week with the latest PTA information. The
Tuesday Green Sheet, the Dragon’s Roar, Parent Handbook, and
Historian’s photos are available on-line along with most Tuesday
envelope fliers.

Room Parent
Coordinator:
Each classroom has a Head Room Parent, a volunteer who
coordinates class parties, helps get volunteers for field trips,
special events, and generally helps support the classroom. Room
Parents are solicited in late September.

Scholastic Books:
To support our school
Library, PTA sends the monthly Scholastic Books flyer home with
students in their Tuesday envelope. Orders are compiled and sent to
Scholastic, and the books are then sent home with students.

Staff Appreciation
Days: PK
has the best teachers, instructional assistants, custodians and
administrative staff in the galaxy! Once each month, we host a
week of festivities to show them how much we love them.

Technology
Liaison: Coordinates development of PTA technology
budget with PTA executive board and PK and MBUSD administration and
staff. Provides oversight of PTA technology expenditures and
participates as PK PTA representative to district, MBEF and other
technology groups as needed.

Tuesday Envelope
Stuffers:
This committee meets every Tuesday morning to “stuff” the weekly
Tuesday Envelopes with all sorts of communication, including the
“Green Sheet”, to keep you well informed.
