Operations Committees

The following committees report to Operations VP Maureen Gold & Nina Patel:

<

Campus Enhancements: This committee maintains the lovely potted gardens outside classrooms, organizes campus “pride days” for sprucing up our grounds, and helps find ways to improve the overall appearance of the campus.

Contact: Kim Wilson or Maureen Gold

Clothing and Toy Drive: Each fall, Pennekamp families get into the spirit of giving.  We collect gently used clothing, toys and books and provide them to an inner city school.

Contact: Kim Friedman or Lisa O'Donoghue

Directory/Parent Handbook: This will become one of the most important books in your house!  The PK Directory provides the names and phone numbers for all your child’s classmates, teacher’s extensions at school, the yearlong school calendar, and critical information about PTA and Pennekamp.  A copy of the Directory is provided free to each PTA member.  The Directory accepts local advertisements. Extra copies of the directory are available for purchase.

Contact: Karen Chan

Dragon eNews: The Pennekamp PTA sends out a weekly e-mail newsletter on Monday evenings to parents, teachers and administrators containing information about school events, a calendar of upcoming events, a link to Principal Dale Keldrauk's weekly green sheet, the school lunch menu, articles of interest and much more.  pkpta.org will post any of the forms and flyers which go out in the Tuesday envelope so you can download and print them at home.  E-mail edragon@pkpta.org to contact the editor.

Contact:  Eve Ahlers.

Historian: The Pennekamp Historian compiles photographs and other memorabilia from the school year.  The Historian works with yearbook and the website to make these available to students and families.

Contact: Craig Fodness, Ortencia Rowland or Eve Ahlers.

Hospitality: The PTA serves snacks at many PTA events, including general PTA meetings.  Hospitality chairs organize and set up these snacks (usually juice, cookies, and coffee), which are paid for by PTA.

Contact: Pamela Noel

Kindergarten/New Parent Social: Just prior to the opening of school each September, Pennekamp hosts a “welcome” social for in-coming Kindergarten/PEP families as well as anyone new to our school.

Contact: Heather Spadone.

Library Volunteer Coordinator: Library volunteers help students locate and check out books, re-shelve books, and generally support the work of our Library Media Specialist.

Contact: Rikki Kartub

PTA Reflections: Reflections is a national PTA program that asks students to create artwork (musical composition, photography, literature, visual arts) based on a theme.  Judges at PK review the work by category and grade.  Winners are forwarded to the Manhattan Beach Council, State, and even the National PTA.  The 2007-2008 theme is “I Can Make a Difference by…” and entries will be due in late November.

PTA Website: The Pennekamp PTA has an award-winning website, www.pkpta.org, that is updated several times a week with the latest PTA information.  The Tuesday Green Sheet, the Dragon’s Roar, Parent Handbook, and Historian’s photos are available on-line along with most Tuesday envelope fliers.

Contact: Eve Ahlers

Room Parent Coordinator: Each classroom has a Head Room Parent, a volunteer who coordinates class parties, helps get volunteers for field trips, special events, and generally helps support the classroom.  Room Parents are solicited in late September.

Contact: Chris Edmonds or Susan Holton

Scholastic Books: To support our school Library, PTA sends the monthly Scholastic Books flyer home with students in their Tuesday envelope.  Orders are compiled and sent to Scholastic, and the books are then sent home with students.

Contact: Carol Dafesh or Stephanie Mibu

Staff Appreciation Days: PK has the best teachers, instructional assistants, custodians and administrative staff in the galaxy!  Once each month, we host a week of festivities to show them how much we love them.

Contact: Jacqueline James or Gail Goldstein

Technology Liaison: Coordinates development of PTA technology budget with PTA executive board and PK and MBUSD administration and staff.  Provides oversight of PTA technology expenditures and participates as PK PTA representative to district, MBEF and other technology groups as needed.

Tuesday Envelope Stuffers: This committee meets every Tuesday morning to “stuff” the weekly Tuesday Envelopes with all sorts of communication, including the “Green Sheet”, to keep you well informed.
