Young At Art has served the Manhattan Beach community for 25 years, so this school year is YAA's Jubilee celebration year.  Young At Art’s goals are to encourage children’s creative and mental growth through meaningful art experiences in a non-judgmental environment.  We present six different projects throughout the year encompassing a variety of techniques and artists.

October Shaping Nature
November Animal Portraits
January Peter to the Max
February African Wrap Dolls
March Red Poppies
April Greenbelt Gates

OCTOBER- Shaping Nature

We launch our Jubilee celebration with 'Shaping Nature', a study inspired by the organic architecture and breathtaking stained glass creations of Frank Lloyd Wright.  Students will design their own 'window' using vellum paper and markers. .

NOVEMBER - Animal Portraits

This is a skill-building lesson that will instruct our young artists in the technique of drawing an animal face using the same guided elements, yet each face taking on individual and unique characteristics using oil pastels and acrylic paint.

JANUARY - Peter to the Max

January promises to burst forth with the pop art color and graphic art style of contemporary artist Peter Max.  With 'Peter to the Max," students will use neon color acrylic paint to re-create fantastic, imaginative and brilliant images.

FEBRUARY - African Wrap Dolls

February will introduce the art of 'African Wrap Dolls,' a multi-media creation using sticks, fabric, wire and washers. Students will create African warriors or tribal people, using their hands and imagination.

MARCH - Red Poppies

We leap into spring with 'Red Poppies' and the watercolor technique of German artist Emil Nolde.  Students will learn to make watercolors float and dance across their paper while creating vividly colored poppies.

APRIL - Greenbelt Gates

Our anniversary celebration will culminate in the piece de resistance, 'Greenbelt Gates,' a different experience for all of us, inspired by the environmental art of Christo.  Students will use wire frames and fabric to create 'gates' which will later be a part of a dual citywide installation along the greenbelt of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach.
