Thursday, October 6 was "Walk to School Day" in Manhattan Beach. Pennekamp
students spoke at City Hall about this wonderful event and Mayor Joyce Fahey and the City Council
issued a proclamation declaring
Thursday, October 6 Walk to School day in Manhattan Beach in
conjunction with International Walk to School Week which ran from
October 3 - 7, 2005.
37
countries around the world participated in this event and here in
Manhattan Beach, 80% of students at the five MBUSD elementary
schools walked to school.
Thank
you to Becky Allen and Kim Wilson for coordinating Pennekamp's
participation!

Our
Pennekamp students were invited to submit photos of what they saw
while walking to school and this page is a result of their efforts
(with the exception of the photos at City Hall).

All photos that you see here were taken by students Emma Hatton (K),
Taylin Kamimoto (4), David Ryono (4) & Elle Ryono (2) on their way
to Pennekamp that morning. Thank you to our student
photographers--you did a wonderful job!

The
best part about walking to Pennekamp...
... is that you will always run into a friend on the way there!
Everyone (including family pets) had a great time taking part in
"Walk to School" Day!

We saw
so many interesting things
on our
way to school.

We are
truly lucky

to
live in such a beautiful neighborhood!

It was
instrumental music day, so thanks to all the moms and dads who
helped lug instruments and music stands

to Pennekamp.

Mr.
Keldrauk walked several miles from his home

and
enjoyed meeting up with families on the playground. It was a beautiful day to walk to school!

And
we'll leave you with a reminder that you should be sure take time to
stop and smell the flowers (like our student photographers
did)!
