Cultural Arts Assembly:
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" - October 8, 2004

The Pennekamp PTA hosts three
cultural arts assemblies each year. The first was Will & Company's
presentation of "A Midsummer's Night Dream" which incorporated budding
Pennekamp thespians.

Students
quickly learned that in a small company, you have to learn how to
play more than one role. In the question and answer session
after the play, we learned that most of the company started acting
at age 9 or 10.

Actors
spend a lot of time waiting for their part, but when the time comes,
they need to be ready to go!

Good
actors draw their audience into the scene...

and
when they perform, no one dares to look away.

We
learned that actors convey emotion to the audience using many
different means including changes in volume, facial expressions

and
body language. Dying scenes are always so dramatic!

There
are no small parts. The moon, a tree, even a wall can be an
essential part of any play.

We saw
that teamwork is as essential on the stage as it is in any sport.

And of
course, having fun makes all the difference!
