Friday,
February 18, 2005 was 100's day at Pennekamp! 100's day is
traditionally held on (or near) the 100th day of school and the first and
second grades celebrate the number 100 via a variety of
activities.

In several classrooms, students placed 100
stickers on a 100s day bookmark. Covering the bookmark was
easy. Making sure there were exactly 100 stickers--well, that
was a bit trickier!

In
some of the rooms, children had to visualize what they would look
like

at 100
years of age

and
then create a sketch.

Despite
the weather, the bubble activity where students had to blow 100
bubbles was a hit. As
they soon discovered, blowing the bubbles wasn't difficult.
Counting them before they blew away proved to be a bit more
challenging!

Another
activity was the 100 square name quilt. Students had to fill
in a 10x10 grid using the letters in their name and then color the
squares in according to their unique patterns.

And
finally, the roll and tally a die 100 times

where
students predicted which number they thought would appear most
often,

and in
teams of 2 or 3, they would roll and tally their
results. Using tally marks and rolling exactly 100 times
was a lot of fun!
